Sending Hampers in a Heatwave
You've found the perfect gift, from a small-batch maker, a cheese hamper, something you want to arrive exactly as it left us — and then you check the forecast. Twenty-eight degrees and climbing. Suddenly you're not sure whether hitting order is the right call.
What Hampers Are Safe to Send in Hot Weather?
🍫 Chocolate gifts — Our artisan chocolate gifts are the category we protect most carefully in warm weather. Ice packs are included as standard when temperatures demand it — your gift arrives exactly as it should.
🧀 Cheese hampers — Ambient cheese snacks and hard cheese selections are robust travellers. Our cheese gifts are packaged for the journey and handle warm delivery conditions well.
🥩 Charcuterie hampers — Cured meats are sealed, shelf-stable, and entirely untroubled by warm weather. Our charcuterie gifts ship confidently year-round without any extra protection needed.
🍺 Beer and drink hampers — Cans and bottles travel without issue regardless of the temperature outside. Our beer gifts are some of the most summer-friendly hampers we make.
🎁 Last-minute summer gifts — Ordering close to the date? Our next-day delivery gifts get there fast, which means less time in transit and less exposure to heat.
Will Chocolate Melt in the Post?
This is the question we get asked most — and it's the right one to ask.
Artisan chocolate, particularly anything with high cocoa content or ganache filling, has a lower melting point than mass-market bars. Small-batch makers don't use stabilisers to artificially raise that threshold. That's part of what makes it taste better. It also means it needs more care in transit.
When temperatures rise, we include ice packs with all chocolate hampers, sealed in insulated lining to keep the internal temperature stable through the journey. We don't wait for a complaint before deciding something needed protection. The ice packs go in before the order leaves us.
The person you're sending to will receive their chocolate gifts looking and tasting exactly as they should.
Can You Send Cheese Hampers in Hot Weather?
It depends on the type — and we'll be straight with you about it.
Fresh or soft cheese that belongs in a fridge is not something we'd send in a heatwave without the right packaging in place. Ambient cheese snacks, hard cheese selections, and charcuterie are a different matter entirely. These are designed to travel — sealed packaging, low moisture, shelf-stable. They handle a warm delivery van without any issue.
If you're ever uncertain about a specific product, the product page will tell you whether it needs refrigeration. We'd always rather answer the question upfront than have a gift arrive that didn't meet the standard.
How We Pack Hampers When It's Hot
On the warmest days of the year, we change how we pack — not whether we send.
Temperature-sensitive hampers go out with ice packs and insulated lining as standard. For longer delivery windows on hot days, we'd recommend next-day delivery where possible — less time in transit means less exposure to heat, and we'd rather tell you that clearly than let you find out the hard way.
What we won't do is quietly send something that shouldn't be sent and hope for the best. Every product in a FodaBox hamper has been tried and tasted by the team before it gets near a box. That standard doesn't change because the weather does.

Send With Confidence — Whatever the Forecast
Finding the right gift for someone shouldn't come with a weather caveat. Summer is full of birthdays, thank-yous, and occasions that deserve something genuinely good — and we make sure the hamper that arrives matches the one that left.
We handle the weather. They get to enjoy the gift.
Find out why sending a hamper in a heatwave is safer — and simpler — than you think.
