Steeped in history, as one of the oldest cocktails, the Manhattan embodies the zeitgeist of New York in the late 19th Century. Blended with sweet vermouth, a nod to the large Italian immigrant population, its heady mix of American rye whiskey ignites the night with a potent dash of bitters, blending sharp high notes and herbal undertones with flair, and delicious subtlety.
The Manhattan, in modern times, is less widely known than its cousin, the Old Fashioned. Those who have been acquainted however, revel in the rich whiskey flavour, layered over an even richer palate of sweet vermouth. It's about as sophisticated a cocktail as you'll find, made for evening sipping.
Served ice cold and straight up, you'll be transported to the skylines of New York, gazing out at the Upper East Side and the twinkling lights of the penthouse high rise blocks. Luxury and style ooze from you as the waistcoated barman tops you up with a knowing wink.
